2019 New Year for art!!!

Locust the Opera 
happened at the National Wildlife art museum in Jackson, Wyoming in September 2018.

It will travel to Agadir, Morocco for the opening for the XIII International Congress of Orthopterology in Agadir, Morocco, March 24- 28, 2019. 

So excited to be a part of this production/adventure.  I designed and helped to create the costumes and set for Locust the opera with integral help from Aaron Strube and Jamie Lindsey.

Dairy Art Center Solo Exhibition

I was blessed to receive a solo exhibition in 2014 at the Dairy Art center in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, and due to renovations it was pushed back until now- and will be up from

May 5-June 11 2017

and I am so please at the response so far.  Rebecca Cuscaden- hardworking curator of visual arts at the Dairy just emailed me and gave me a couple comments for the show:

2017

Sabbatical has begun and I am off and running.  I have several exciting events coming up.
I just finished 4 new pieces for our faculty exhibition at the Art museum.  I am missing an image of one of the pieces but will grab that as soon as I get permission to photograph in the museum.

This piece is called :

Anniversary of the storm

Laser etched drawings on plastic hung from steel

Welded steel, paper, wood, and cast pewter

cast paper, maple, graphite, and cast iron

sketch for cheated- inspiration..cheat grass taking over our landscape and cheating sagebrush of the mister it needs to survive

This piece is a mix of drawing and casting that is a different way of working for me in that I am casting metal in relief and putting it on the wall- literally holding the drawings up. I am excited about the scale of this piece, the materials, the outcome is vivid and clear, heavy and light.

Snowy day…..

I come on and say- so much is going on that I let that stuff stop me from doing what I really want to do- which is communicate to others.  I do that but instead of through my work- I end up on email, the phone  or even worse- texting!
Well now we are socked in weather wise and I get t enjoy my amazing studio even but for an hour!

This is when it is good to be a maker of seeds as I always get to concentrate on objects that need sun and warmth versus what I sometimes see outside of our window- but Im not complaining!  We were due this weather and it is perfect for snowballs!  Thick, wet, and full of moisture to allow me more seeds to work from when its over!  

  

I am starting a new batch of work finally after struggling with the South High project and no word as to its progress- gotta love the government!!  My focus is now on projects I can repeat and create quickly as to gain some instant  gratification.  This is fun because it tells me how good my skills are as to how much less time it takes for me to render something.

 

My students say I make things look easy- but I say after over 20 years I better make it look easy from mere practice!! 

So many amazing opportunities have been coming my way that I will be writing about in the next couple of weeks.
Beginning in May 2014 I was asked to work with the students of South High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming to create a public art piece for their round about outside their school.
I have visited with them every couple of weeks starting Fall 2014.  We have been working towards a viable idea and we have come up with :

 This piece really speaks to these kids and how they feel like the weeds of the town, being from the other side of the tracks, I really wanted to give them a piece that would not rust but will stay pristine and precious so hopefully they feel they are as precious/valuable as we know they are.

This piece is slated for installation June 2015.

Its almost iron pouring time and I am sketching ideas out to start now. 

Taking orders now for utilitarian needs!

Its raining here in Laramie, which is not normal but gladly received.  My flowers are so happy.

After a thoughtful conversation with a dinner guest- I learn amazing facts about the future of water on this planet and contamination specifically.  From New Orleans to Laramie, Wyoming- its a shock to think about water shortage.  I grew up surrounded and drenched in water.  Humidity and moisture galore to  all encompassing dryness.  A body of work is on the drawing board to explore this more. After our summer vacation- both David and I say we have never seen so much rain in such a short time.  Spending time at the gulf..cant help but seep into my brain and my skin!! miss that....

getting ready to meet the curator for the Portland Museum as well as get loaded up to teach a workshop for K-12 Art teachers in Cody, Wyoming. I' m looking forward to it all but really am itching to get into the studio now that the semester has gotten underway. Too many ideas too little time! Will add some new pictures next week when I return! I have to get ready for two shows coming up and a move to new art facilities!! Pictures of that can be found on www.uwsculpture.blogspot.com.

So new work- it was hard to take a picture of because it is not cured yet, but there are small figures hanging off of some of the seeds. The resin is taking longer to cure here- I guess there is way more humidity in the air than in Laramie- which is unfortunate and a bit stressful but hopefully all will be done by Saturday on my departure. I cant believe 4 weeks have gone by already!!

By far the prettiest mean from Angie. Tomatilla(sp?) pork with a spring salad, cornbread, and corn with dill cilantro and butter.

I dream about that corn!!

This is by far the best part of my day here at Jentel. All until Angie and I heard a large plop and splash and realized a snake had fallen off the nearby bridge and was headed our way. luckily he headed off into the bushes before getting to us, but I did manage to get up on my chair with the quickness to avoid him/her. Excitement!!

Dave is from New York yet looks so at home on this ram...

I am really excited about this piece. the poppies will have architectural elements but I am still making those parts. Time- can anyone ship me some more time? Ill pay for it :) If you have seeds too- send them my way- love getting them from around the country.

I realized I have put work up in awhile but its because I have been working on molds and fighting a bit with having less dryness than in Laramie to help me gets these guys dry so I can de-mold. It is going slow but progress can be seen regardless.

I am collecting more and more seeds everyday for future works. Its great to have time to think allowing the ideas to keep flowing now its just a matter of making time once I am back to civilization!! Im excited by what is happening and the opportunities that keep coming my way based on this work.

So it was my turn to cook and so because we were watching Big Lebowski last night and he is always in his robe and slippers I made us breakfast for dinner. Garlic and rosemary fingerling potatoes, poached eggs with a tarragon bearnaise, cayenne and brown sugar bacon, and banana gluten free pancakes with a chantilly almond cream and blackberries. It was delicious and pretty to boot. Will definitely have this again!!

Though a misprint in the date..way to go editors, this happened yesterday and was great to do because we all got to hear what each of us does. A good crowd of locals came out for it and we met some great Sheridan artists.

okay a little silly but it cant be all work work work....

so we had several skillet dishes so far- lauren's very spicy drunken noodles, and I made a ginger garlic shrimp with kale dish for us for lunch. yummy... Tonight is breakfast for dinner night with my mother in laws yum brown sugar bacon and banana pancakes with almond chantilly cream. Its Big Lebowski night and I figured since Jeff bridges is in his robe and slippers the whole movie..breakfast would be good for my night.
